Practicing the Loving Kindness exercise was still a bit difficult to complete. Closing my eyes and resting was the easy part. However, it was difficult to read the phrases over and over while staying relaxed. It was a bit easier when I read one phrase and relaxed, closing my eyes, and repeated same phrase a few times before moving onto the next.
When performing a brief integral assessment, in reviewing the four quadrants, the one that stuck out most that needed more attention would be the interpersonal flourishing. I would like to strengthen my family and friend relationships. After knowing someone for many, many years it becomes easy to not appreciate them as much and I don’t want to take my friends and family for granted. One step towards accomplishing this could be maintaining positive thoughts and straying from the negative, expressing thanks when someone does something helpful or thoughtful.

I agree with your contentions about interpersonal flourishing because that was my area that needs the most improvement. I quite often take for granted the amazing family that I have because of all the day to day stressors and frustration. I have made meditation a more prominent part of my flourishing mind in order to fully appreciate the interpersonal aspects of my life. I really respect and appreciate your post!
ReplyDeleteAppreciating the people in our lives who we are close to can be a challenge when they may not be easy to love. However, reminding ourselves everyday that we love and accept them unconditionally is a step in the loving-kindness direction as well as nuturing your interpersonal flourishing. When I take the time to still my mind and be quiet every day, it helps me to realize all that I am blessed with. When I take my lunch to work, I look out the window at the sky, buildings, and trees and sit quietly while I eat. This helps me to clear my mind of work stresses and think about what is truly important to me; my family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI think you summed up pretty good how I feel. I always worry about not wanting to take my family for granted. I am trying so hard to keep up with things that I try to continually tell them how much I love them and appreciate them. The loving kindness towards your family is easier than towards someone that you might not care foe much. Remembering that they are struggling too is important. I will have to keep practicing that as I don't feel I am where I need to be with that exercise. This one especially because I struggled with repeading the phrase. I had to consintrate so much on remembering that I didn't feel I got what I could have from it.
