The two practices that I feel would be most beneficial to me would be the subtle mind and visualization. I was more comfortable performing these exercises than the others, and I also felt that they would be beneficial if practiced. I can implement the subtle mind daily by making an appointment with myself and practice following through. I think a good time to practice this would be in the morning and before bed as I think these are the times my mind becomes the busiest, as I start making lists of things to do in my mind, etc. As for the visualization exercise, I can implement this exercise when I am feeling particularly stressed and need a pick-me-up, or practice it just because it is able to bring me to a good place, which we all need.
Angel,
ReplyDeleteThe Subtle Mind seems popular, lol! (I chose it, too, and just commented on another blog in which it was mentioned.)
Fitness experts are fond of recommending that people block off time for themselves to exercise just as they would a business meeting or social engagement, because physical wellness is just as important as any other aspect of daily life. I believe the same is true of mental and spiritual fitness, so your idea of "making an appointment" to meditate sounds right on!
What are some things that really trigger your stress and kick you into that place where you feel like you need a "pick-me-up?" For me, it's people who expect a certain level of regard from others but don't give the same courtesy. Some folks are so rude!

Angel,
ReplyDeleteI chose the same exercises as you! Did you find the other two exercises to be sort of abstract? I found both of them difficult and I just couldn't wrap my mind around the concept. I think that the more abstract it seems, the harder it is for me. I have tried to keep an open mind but some of the concepts in the book, are tough for me to grasp.
I didn't choose it but I do have to admit I really liked all of the visualizations as well as guided imagery. My mind is always going from one thing to another so the guided imagery really helped keep me focused on what I was doing. The visualizations I found quite enjoyable. Again, something to keep my mind focused on so I was able to accomplish the practice. They helped to relieve stress, which is always a problem for me. Anything I can find to help with that is always top on my list. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteHi Angel!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about the subtle mind and the visualization exercises being the favorite. Because I am already a spiritual person, I know what love is and how to show and give it, I don't need an exercise to teach me that. But as far as the subtle mind exercise goes, as of just focusing on one thing such as your breathing, brings calmness and peace to me-but, I can only do it for about 5 minutes :s Also like you said the visualization exercise does give us a pick-me-up, thinking of a place we would love to be at the highest moment of stress during our day, defiantly does have a calming effect. Good luck with the rest of the term and to your future goals!
